Expanding access to ecological science, emerging technology, & conservation training

TEAL supports conservation  by making ecological science, emerging technology, and analytical tools more accessible for the people responsible for managing land, water, wildlife, and natural resources. Our charitable work focuses on scientific literacy, practitioner training, open and reproducible methods, and support for students and early-career professionals entering applied conservation fields.

Making advanced ecological tools transparent, defensible, and accessible for everyone.

We believe the people closest to conservation problems should not be locked out of modern tools because of cost, technical barriers, or lack of specialized training.

We help practitioners access, understand, and apply emerging tools in remote sensing, ecological modeling, GIS, and environmental monitoring.

What we support

Scientific literacy

Conservation decisions increasingly rely on satellite imagery, bioacoustics, machine learning, drones, sophisticated  statistics and other methods.

 

These methods can be powerful, but they can also become barriers when only specialists can understand or apply them. 

Plain-language explainers on remote sensing, ecological models, and monitoring design. Workshops for natural resource professionals, students, agencies, NGOs, and community partners. Educational materials that help non-specialists interpret environmental data responsibly. Public-facing resources that clarify what ecological data can and cannot show

Emerging tech in ecology

New tools such as cloud-based geospatial analysis, AI, automated  monitoring, UAV and satellite-derived habitat products are rapidly changing conservation science.

 

TEAL supports equitable access to these tools by helping practitioners understand, evaluate, and use them in defensible, reproducible ways.

Training in Google Earth Engine, R, GIS, remote sensing, and ecological modeling. Open or low-cost workflows that reduce dependence on expensive proprietary systems where possible. Field-ready tools for monitoring, survey design, and habitat assessment. Documentation and reproducible code that allow agencies and organizations to continue using methods after a project ends

Students & early-career professionals

TEAL supports graduate students and early-career professionals through small grants, training opportunities, mentorship, and  partnerships.

 

Priority may be given to work that advances wildlife, wetland, remote sensing, ecological modeling, monitoring, or open-source or novel methods.
